My Story

Ever take a test that changed the course of your life?

The year was 2008, and the test was a six-hour battery of exercises and challenges created by the Johnson O'Connor Foundation (JOCF) to measure one's "innate potential". To my surprise the results indicated I should pursue a career where 3D visualization and strong idea flow are required. Architecture, urban planning, and 3D design were the prime examples, given my high scores in divergent thinking, artistic judgment, and spatial aptitudes.

Yes Mom and Dad, this is why I spent endless hours with my Legos.

As a kid, though, being creative meant you were artsy, like actors, musicians, and authors. It didn't cross my mind to pursue a creative field. Yet, here staring me in the face was my 99th percentile ideaphoria score. Wild. (JOCF describes "ideaphoria" as "the rate you can generate ideas.")

Tempting as it was to stop working and study architecture, changing careers seemed impractical. I had a mortgage. I was still paying off my student loans from my full-time MBA program.

Still, the possibility of more fully using my visual abilities intrigued me. What if I could be good at designing visual things? Who knows, maybe really good.

Fast-forward to 2022, and I've started an exciting journey into building my skills and experience in the world of User Experience Design.

This new adventure allows me to apply over 25 years of marketing, branding, sales, engineering, and business consulting experience to solving complex design problems in the pursuit of my professional mission: to improve the health of people and planet.

Along with my passion for health and sustainability, I also love of music, dancing, training for triathlons (with my teammates), and getting to know people from other cultures.

Yes, I may be older than your typical UX designer, but I share the love for solving tough problems, curiosity, and deep empathy directed at building products that improve the lives of humans everywhere.

And, having managed businesses and functional departments in the past, I understand the broader context and constraints in which all organizations operate—important for avoiding pitfalls and seeing around the proverbial corner.
